Introduction of Division Forest Office, Kalikot
Kalikot District, located in the mid-hill region under Karnali Province of Nepal, is one of the ten districts of Karnali Province. Kalikot District extends from 81°28″ East longitude to 82°02″ East longitude and from 29°05″ North latitude to 29°28″ North latitude. It is situated at an elevation ranging from 738 meters to 4,790 meters above sea level.
The district is bordered by Jumla, Achham, Bajura, Mugu, Dailekh, and Jajarkot districts. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the total area of the district is 1,741.0 square kilometers. The district experiences temperatures ranging from a maximum of 18.6 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 5.6 degrees Celsius, and generally receives an average annual rainfall of 630 millimeters.
The major rivers of the district include the Karnali and Tila rivers. Smaller rivers and streams include Tipgada, Khulalugad, Wanchugad, Phakoti, Rengil, Sannigad, Bhartagad, and Khallagad, among others. Similarly, famous lakes in the district include Tridevi Lake, Gadularlaniha Daha, Lake Daha, Pan Daha, and Rakherwada Daha.
Likewise, major tourist and religious sites and temples include Badimalika Temple, Chulimailika Temple, Pugmailika Temple, and Mahabu Temple, among others. This office was established in 2041 B.S. within the organizational structure of the Forest Department. The office has its own building located at Manma, Khandachakra Bazaar.
To conserve and manage the natural resources within Kalikot District, the office is staffed with 1 Divisional Forest Officer, 1 Assistant Forest Officer and Watershed Officer (Gazetted Seventh Level), 3 Assistant-level Accounting staff (Level 5/6), 1 Administrative Assistant (Level 5/6), 1 Soil Conservation Assistant (Level 5/6), 1 Engineering Assistant (Level 5/6), 1 Forester (Level 4/5), 2 Forest Guards, 2 Office Assistants, and 1 Vehicle Driver, making a total of 14 employees.
